Dex

Meet Dex! This bright, affectionate, 2 year old American Bulldog mix is full of personality and heart. He’s a people-loving, social dog who thrives on connection, routine, and having a job to do. He’s happiest when he knows what’s expected of him and has someone who can offer clear structure, consistency, and a healthy outlet for his energy.

Dex is being supported through our Community program, and we’re hoping to help his person find a unique, collaborative situation — ideally someone interested in babysitting or caring for him part-time while working in partnership with his current owner, who is navigating scheduling constraints. This arrangement would allow him to stay connected to his person while ensuring his needs are fully met during this busy period. With that being said, we are open to discussing rehoming if an exceptional, well-matched home comes along. Dex’s adoption will be facilitated directly with his current owner, Urban Tails is acting as the intermediary.

Dex would be the ideal companion for someone interested in exploring dog sports such as fly ball, agility, or other activities. Alternatively, he would make a good hiking or trail partner. He absolutely loves other dogs and does very well with canine companions. While he’s friendly and curious, a home without cats would be best, as he does have a strong prey drive.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who loves energetic dogs, enjoys building relationships, and is open to a flexible, community-style approach to care. If you think you might be a good fit, whether as a caregiver or potential forever home, we’d love to connect and explore what could work best for everyone involved.

If you're interested in part-time care with Dex or adopting, apply below. All applicants will be shared with Dex’s owner.

Here’s what we’ve learned about Play-Doh so far:

  • Amazing Recall: He knows his name and comes when called.

  • Loves Car Rides: He’s a road trip enthusiast.

  • Tail Chaser: He loves chasing his tail and getting belly rubs.

  • Playful: Just starting to enjoy his toys.

  • Leash Lover: Gets super excited when you pick up his leash.

  • House Trained: Can hold his potty for a long time.

  • Crate Trained: He’s comfortable in his crate.

  • Grooming: Has been good to be groomed.

  • Non-Chewer: Hasn’t shown a drive to chew things.

  • Learning Commands: Currently learning “Sit,” “Down,” and “Stay/Wait.”

Here are some things he still needs to work on:

  • Can get overstimulated but calms down if put into a “sit.”

  • Needs leash work, pulls and is vocal towards strangers/other animals (his foster is working on this currently)

  • Needs work with jumping up.

  • Has shown some separation anxiety when you first leave the room.

  • Needs slow introductions to new dogs and people.

  • Has a bit of a prey drive that can be worked on in the right home. Currently learning “leave it.”
