Urban Tails Animal Support Network Receives $5,000 Grant from SPCA International
Urban Tails Animal Support Network is thrilled to receive a $5,000 grant from SPCA International through their Shelter Support Program. This funding recognizes Urban Tails’ ongoing commitment to improving the lives of animals in the Greater Toronto Area communities and beyond.
The grant will directly support two core initiatives: the Street Support Program, which supports people and their pets through pet food bank services and access-to-care initiatives, and ongoing work with remote communities, bringing veterinary resources and animal welfare support to communities with no immediate access to these services.
Access to veterinary care remains a significant challenge across Canada. According to the PetSmart Charities of Canada and Gallup State of Pet Care Study, half of Canadian pet owners report skipping or declining needed veterinary care in the past year, most often due to cost or access barriers. Urban Tails works to close this gap, particularly for vulnerable populations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) who too often fall through the cracks of the traditional pet care system.
In the GTA, Urban Tails partners with front-line social service organizations including Fred Victor and the Native Women's Resource Centre to reach pet owners experiencing housing instability and other socioeconomic challenges. These partnerships reflect the belief that supporting the human-animal bond is inseparable from supporting human wellbeing. For many of the people Urban Tails serves, their pet is their family and ensuring that bond is protected is at the heart of everything the organization aims to do.
"We are so grateful to SPCA International for recognizing the work our team does every day," says Bianca Del Bois, Founder and Executive Director of Urban Tails Animal Support Network. "This grant allows us to keep showing up for animals and the people who care for them."
SPCA International's Shelter Support Program awards grants to organizations making measurable differences in animal welfare across the globe. Urban Tails is proud to be recognized as one of those organizations and looks forward to putting these funds to work immediately.
